Indie Game Bundle Alert – Just $1!

Happy Valentine’s Day, my loves!

What is a better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than buying up some indie games? ;D

On the Groupees.com website right now, you’ll find the ‘Be Mine Anniversary’ bundle. The lowest tier includes four games for just $1. Included in this tier are Eschalon Book II, iBomber Defense Pacific, Livalink, & Party of Sin — also included is a BMA Special EP.

OR you can do what I did and upgrade to a minimum of $5 and receive 5 additional games and 2 soundtracks! Check it all out here.

My favorite part about the bundle is that after purchase, they send you direct access to the downloads along with the keys for Steam.

And if you are celebrating your Vday playing video games — then join me on Steam!

That’s So Disney

I’ve got something for all of you Disney collectors out there, are you ready?

Disney will be releasing a new video game soon – Disney Infinity. If you are the collector-type, then you must check this game out.

The game will essentially work very similar to Skylanders, as you will collect physical pieces/figures of Disney characters that come alive in-game. The figures for both games look to be comparable in quality, however, the art style is completely different.

Disney Infinity Starter Pack

The game definitely is aimed at being family friendly, but unlike Disney Universe, this game actually has some content to it – at least enough where I don’t feel like I would feel awkward or too bored to go through as an adult. The review videos released of Disney Infinity do seem to be much less limited as far as movement in the game itself in comparison to the Skylanders games. Yes, that means you can actually jump in Disney Infinity. ;) I definitely am still a strong Skylanders fan, but I do think that it could use some competition (and, therefore, improvements!). The Disney Infinity official trailer seems to hint that you can ‘create your own’ – I hope that references some sort of Sim-esque sandbox mode, because that would be sweeet. Check out the official trailer below!

If you are looking to pre-order the game, you can currently sign up on GameStop.com to receive updates about the official release date for pick-up (the date currently given is June 2013). However, some physical locations are already advertising for the game, so it wouldn’t hurt to ask your local game advisor. Come back to GeekyGirly.com for further updates!

The Facebook Experiments: Part 1B

In my last post, I shared with you guys some of the ugly side of Facebook and its users. This time I would like to share a couple of ways to make your Facebook beautiful (and ponylicious).

Currently, I’m using Ponyhoof to skin my Facebook and I am loving it. It is definitely my favorite way to theme my Facebook that I have found so far. Check it out!

^ This is the current theme I’m using, it’s called Fleur De Lis. How could any brony resist? There are a lot of other cool ones, like this Big Mac theme.

Valentine’s Day Can Be Cool

Валентина каракули мальчик и девоч

Aah, the most feared holiday of all the geeks…Valentine’s Day. I personally really love Valentine’s Day, regardless of what my Facebook relationship status is…I can’t get enough of it. Enough of the excuses of it being a “Hallmark holiday” and that “it’s not romantic because there is no surprise and I could just do something more special on any other day”.

Okay, sure most people spend $5 on a Hallmark card and then get a box of chocolates or a bouquet of flowers for the person they love…but are you and I those people? No. We have never been one of those. C’mon, we are waaay cooler than that.

I like to think of Valentine’s Day as an opportunity. Not necessarily an opportunity to receive or to even to give items, but just an opportunity to interact with the people that you do know and the people that you don’t know (yet). In this special post, I’m going to post some of my favorite Valentine’s Day ideas (with pictures!) along with my reasoning as to why Valentine’s Day is still a pretty great day.

  1. It may be one of your last chances to send cheesy kids-themed Valentines. V-day is one of the only holidays left where you can still get away with acting like a child. A couple of years ago I bought a case of those super-nerdy stickery card packs that elementary school kids give out. I put names on them, sealed them up with Hershey kisses and totally brought them to college with me & gave them to people in my cafeteria. Even the sourpusses couldn’t resist these… P.S. Keep some extras without names & a pen handy just in case you are super forgetful like myself.
  2. Save the flowers for your mom. Every girl (and even some guys) have gotten flowers before. If you are going to buy flowers, buy a small bouquet for your mother! I totally give my mom Valentine’s Day gifts every year. The thought should never be ‘Oh, that person already has a significant other and they’ll be getting them something…’. It’s totally neat to give little somethings, even just a call or text to a family member or close friend that lets them know you care. In all seriousness though, if you MUST get me flowers…these are probably the neatest I’ve seen.

  3. Get the guy you like something that he will actually like. I suggest something that will actually bring you two together, like a video game or a Lego set! What is more romantic than getting a cool, usable gift that you can spend time playing or putting together?

    LEGO Creator Grand Emporium Set

Lego has all sorts of cool sets out right now including Star Wars, TMNT, The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, Super Heroes, and their newest Chima line – you can see them all on the Toys R Us site.

  4. Take a chance, leave a note. If you insist that Valentine’s Day is just some cookie-cutter holiday that you can 1-UP then prove it! Wish someone you don’t know very well a good day, tell a friend or acquaintance what they mean to you, ask the guy/girl that you like out already. I did this one year by writing tiny notes on fake flower petals, stuffing them in a jar and wrapping it with ribbon with the idea of the person pulling a single one out each day until they ran out (you pick whatever special day you want that to be). If you are single, this could be a great way to get the ball rolling on someone you want to ask out by hiding a special note at the bottom.
  5. Make your meal epic. While everyone else is spending tons of money going out for Valentine’s Day…round up your date or a group of friends and make something at home. Don’t go for a lame spaghetti dinner though…it will never quite work out like The Lady and the Tramp made it out to be, trust me. Make something giant-ly edible just like the guys of Epic Meal Time might do. How about a giant cake-sized cupcake or hundreds of silver dollar bacon pancakes? Only you can decide.

I really think Valentine’s Day is not entirely about having a sweetheart, but instead having a sweet heart. Get it? Okay, I’m done, really, I promise. If nothing else, enjoy the delicious candies that will be on sale on February 15th. ;)

If you have any other fantastic Valentine’s Day ideas to share OR would like a valentine, then feel free to comment here on the blog, in a Facebook comment or send an email to me at beta@geekygirly.com, boys and girls!

With love,

Must Have Game! Ni No Kuni

For all you gamers out there, here is a game that you have to play…Ni No Kuni.

This game was developed LEVEL-5 with the help of animation by Studio Ghibli (yes, the guys who created Totoro!).

Ni No Kuni

Ni No Kuni is a super adorable RPG about a young boy named Oliver – you can find more info about it on the official site. You might not have heard about this game yet, even though it is to be released tomorrow, but I can guarantee that this will not be the last that you hear of it! If you want to give it a try, you can find a demo of the game on PlayStation Network right now.

Protip: If you are planning on picking up this game, there is also a less-known collectors edition version of it named the Wizard’s Edition. It was sold on the Namco Bandai site for $99, but is currently sold out and only available from resellers.

A free steelbook case was also offered as a pre-order incentive for retailers like GameStop, however, they are low in stock.

“Love”-ly Watch for Valentine’s Day!

I’ve currently being doing a lot of shopping around for watches lately. Seems like I always tend to do this at the beginning of the year while I’m trying to be more conscious about my new year resolutions. I found this super kawaii Valentine’s Day themed watch on Swatch’s US website. Valentine’s Day is pretty much one of my favorite holidays ever + pink + translucent face + yeah, it tells the time too = love.

A La Folie watch by Swatch

If I can find the time, I think I’ll be picking this one up myself. Get it? Find the time? Oh, nevermind…   ._. If you like the watch or want to see more of what they’ve got, I found it here.

Facebook’s Hidden “Other” Feature

Hello geeks, girls & geeky girls! I’ve got a little techy tidbit for you concerning everyone’s fave site, Facebook!

I’ve actually gotten better about using Facebook, I swear, I only waste maybe a half hour a day on their tops! (Don’t judge. :P ) I check my messages, make a couple of status updates & sometimes I still get caught up in games like Candy Crush Saga…but I am slowly improving!

But even though I am on Facebook every day, I rarely check out all of the notifications that are on the left side. Today I found my “Other” inbox and thought I would share my experience with all of you. It seems that Facebook started to filter their inbox and now messages coming from a 3rd party or from people that you are not already friends with on Facebook most often get sent to this “Other” inbox. If you’re like me and haven’t checked this thing out, then it is very likely that at least something has gotten caught in there and, boy, is it worth a look. Personally, I had two very flirtatious messages from strangers who tried to contact me (woo woo~) plus tons of party invites…and I just thought people didn’t like me, psh!

Here’s a screenshot of where you can find the Other section of your inbox:

Facebook – The OTHER Inbox

If you’re a complete Facebook noob, then you can get to this screen by clicking on the green circle first – then click the Other in the red circle to check out the Other side of your inbox. If you have any other neat Facebook tips that you know about then feel free to comment or send them to beta@geekygirly.com!

Skylanders Sidekicks – Now Available For Purchase!

You read that right! If you were not one of the lucky few to get your own Skylanders sidekicks collectibles for free through the Frito Lay promotion, then you still have a chance!

Seems like GameStop locations around the nation are getting stock of sidekicks that they will be selling. Sources are estimating the sidekicks at approx $10 per sidekick. This is definitely less pricey than the $100 or more per set that people were reselling the free figures for on eBay.

Skylanders Sidekicks Promo

From my own research, it doesn’t seem that GameStop is actually putting these figures on the shelves and they do have a limited stock – so don’t wait to check out your local GameStop and make sure to ask if you don’t seem them available!

Skylanders Update! Get Your Scorpion Striker Battle Back Now!

The new and exclusive Skylander 3 pack is now available from GameStop – the Scorpion Striker Battle Pack!

Scorpion Striker Battle Pack

I actually pre-ordered mine from my local GameStop and they had not arrived yet due to some shipping issues. Other that I have spoken with in the US report that there seems to be some sort of shortage. GameStop.com currently has them available for purchase – keep checking often as it seems they keep restocking every so often.
